ในบทที่ 7 นั้น มีหลายประเด็นที่ต้องทบทวนและทำความเข้าใจ ประกอบด้วย
1. Expressions of past experience
ในการถาม-ตอบเกี่ยวกับเหตุการณ์ที่ได้กระทำแล้วในอดีต ไม่ว่าจะเป็นปีที่แล้ว เดือนที่แล้ว สัปดาห์ที่แล้ว หรือเมื่อวาน ถือว่าเป็นอดีตทั้งสิ้น
หลักภาษาที่เกี่ยวข้องกับเรื่องนี้คือ กริยาช่องที่ 2 (past verb form) คำกริยาวิเศษณ์บอกเวลาที่เป็นอดีต (adverbs of time)
อีกเรื่องหนึ่งที่จะลืมไม่ได้คือ โครงสร้าง (structures) ของประโยคบอกเล่า ปฏิเสธและคำถาม
ดูตัวอย่างประกอบนะครับ
A: How was your weekend/holiday?
B: It was great.
A: Did you do anything on Saturday?
B: Yes, I saw a movie with my sister. /Not really, I just stayed home and watched TV.
A: What did you do on the weekend?
B: We drove to Pattaya and spent a whole day there.

At that time Timmy (1) was a five year old boy that his Mom (2) loves very much. When he (3) started Kindergarten, his Mom (4) not wanted to walk to school by himself. So she (5) walks him to school for a couple of days but when he (6) coming home one day, he (7) told his mother that he (8) not preferred her walking him to school everyday because he (9) be not a little boy anymore. His Mom (10) does not know what to do.
Mrs. Goodnest, a neighbour, (11) volunteered to follow her son to school, at a distance behind him so that Timmy (12) not notice her. The next school day, Mrs. Goodnest and her little girl, Marcy, (13) set out behind Timmy as he (14) walked to school with another neighbour boy. She (15) does this for the whole week.
It (16) did not be Timmy but his friend who (17) noticed that there (18) be the same lady following them as she (19) seems to do every day all week. Finally, he (20) said to Timmy,
Have you noticed that lady following us all week? Do you know her?"
รูปกริยาอดีตที่ถูกต้องคือข้อ 1, 3, 7, 11, 13, 14, 17, 20
นอกนั้นรูปกริยาอดีตผิด และสามารถแก้ไขได้ดังนี้
2. loves แก้เป็น loved
4. not wanted แก้เป็น did not want (ตามโครงสร้างของประโยคปฏิเสธ want กริยาแท้ต้องเป็นรูปเดิม ส่วนกริยาที่แสดง tense คือ did ซึ่งเป็นกริยาตัวแรกของประโยค)
5. coming แก้เป็น came
6. walks แก้เป็น walked
8. not preferred แก้เป็น did not prefer (เหมือนข้อ4)
16. did not be แก้เป็น was not (กริยา verb to be เมื่อเป็นประโยคปฏิเสธ ไม่ต้องนำ did มาช่วย เติมรูปกริยาและตามด้วย not ได้เลย)
กริยารูปอดีตนั้นมี 2 ชนิดคือ1. Regular verbs คือ กริยาที่เมื่อเป็นช่องที่ 2 และ 3 เติม -ed
2. Irregular verbs คือกริยาที่เมื่อเป็นช่องที่ 2 และ 3 เปลี่ยนรูปเอง (มีอยู่ในหนังสือหน้าท้ายๆ)
